Positive urban and structural development, active economic development, new residential districts, growing demand for business locations: Mayor Sören Link is convinced that functioning interaction, synergies and cooperation with the most important players in the real estate industry are the right ingredients for the future of Duisburg.

In interviews with duisburg-update, Mayor Sören Link, head of the department for economic and structural development Andree Haack, chairman of municipal subsidiary GEBAG Duisburger Wohnungsbaugesellschaft mbH Bernd Wortmeyer, and head of the department for urban development and the environment Martin Linne talk about their latest projects for shaping Duisburg’s future. In a joint interview, Ralf Meurer and Andree Hack, co-managing directors of the Duisburg economic development corporation, talk about various aspects of promoting business in Duisburg.

Both of them share the common view that Duisburg is attractive for new ideas and investors. Currently, the joint heads of the Duisburg economic development corporation are responsible for development projects on a total area of 160 hectares. In particular, the focus is on the ongoing redevelopment of downtown Duisburg, the 6-Seen-Wedau project in Duisburg’s lake region with residential complexes located directly on the waterfront and the development of the former freight station site – one of the best locations in terms of connectivity in the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region. The stakeholders forecast structural policies that will boost economic growth in the run-up to the International Garden Exhibition IGA 2027 in the Ruhr metropolitan region.

Urban development relies to a large extent on investments by private investors.
